Help future generations understand if taking a statin can help older adults live well for longer by preventing dementia, disability, or heart disease.
You may be eligible to participate if the following is true:
You are 75 years old or older.
You are willing to be randomly assigned to the study drug (a statin called atorvastatin) or a placebo*.
*a placebo is a pill that looks like the study drug but does not have atorvastatin in it
You don't have a history of heart disease, such as heart attack, stroke, bypass surgery or heart stents.
You are NOT taking a statin now or in the past 12 months.

You can join the study in a clinic or from your home by phone anywhere in the United States. If you are eligible and decide to join the PREVENTABLE study, you will receive $75 after you enroll and $50 every year following the annual follow-up call.
